Machine Building | Hydraulics | New Construction

Are you a technician who enjoys building complete machines and has experience with hydraulic systems? Then we have an exciting opportunity for you.

At A.P. van den Berg, you will work on advanced cone penetration testing (CPT) systems used worldwide for geotechnical soil investigations. Based mainly in our modern workshop in Heerenveen, you will build, test, and improve machines that are fully developed in-house.

You start your day with a short team meeting in the workshop. Today, you are working on the assembly of a new CPT system that will soon be delivered to a customer overseas. Using technical drawings and work instructions, you assemble mechanical components and hydraulic systems. You connect components, install hydraulic lines, and ensure that everything functions perfectly.

Later in the day, you support a service case. A customer is experiencing a malfunction in a hydraulic system. You help diagnose the issue and contribute to finding an effective solution. Most service work is handled from our workshop, but occasionally you will visit customer sites or assist with commissioning and operator training.

At the end of the day, you can take pride in a tangible result: a CPT machine that is one step closer to delivery thanks to your skills and craftsmanship. Hydraulics A.P. van den Berg

We will first introduce ourselves:

We are A.P. van den Berg, an innovative family business based in Heerenveen, the Netherlands, that designs, builds and supplies CPT equipment for onshore, offshore and nearshore soil investigation. Our customers are spread all over the world. We are continuously working on innovations in the field of CPT equipment. The equipment, instruments, software, etc. are completely developed and made in-house. Our company consists of about 70 employees and the company culture is characterized by: pride in your work, respect for each other, working together and continuing to learn and adapt. We are growing in various areas. We don’t do crazy things, but we are far from standing still. Not in our products, but not in our operations either.

About your job

As a Technician Machine Building, you play an important role in the construction of our cone penetration testing (CPT) machines. Your main focus is on the assembly and construction of new machines. You will work on hydraulic systems, mechanical structures, and complete CPT systems. In addition, you will provide support with maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting when required.

Approximately 90% of your time will be spent in our workshop in Heerenveen. Occasionally, you will join a colleague for a service visit, commissioning project, or customer training session.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for a colleague who enjoys building, problem-solving, and taking ownership of their work. Ideally, you bring:

  • An MBO-level qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automotive Engineering, or a similar technical field.
  • Several years of experience in machine building, vehicle technology, or a comparable technical environment.
  • Experience with, or a strong affinity for, hydraulic systems.
  • Experience with assembly work and reading technical drawings.
  • Strong technical insight and a hands-on attitude.
  • An independent and accurate way of working.
  • Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.

Basic knowledge of electrical engineering is an advantage, but not essential. You will work closely with our electrical engineering colleagues for electrical-related tasks.

Who will you work with and for?

You will be part of the Assembly and Service Department and work closely with three direct colleagues. You will also have frequent contact with the Production Manager and colleagues from the Fabrication and Electrical Engineering departments. Together, you will ensure that our machines are built and delivered according to the highest quality standards.

Why work at A.P. van den Berg?

Because here, you will work on unique CPT machines that are unlike anything you will find elsewhere. Rather than repetitive production work, you will help build high-quality, tailor-made CPT systems that are used around the world. You will enjoy a high level of independence, be part of a committed and supportive team, and see the direct results of your craftsmanship every day.
