ISO 17025 accredited calibration laboratory

The accreditation has been granted on the basis of EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 and covers the calibration of all four essential measurement parameters within the ISO 22476-1 CPT standard: cone tip resistance, sleeve friction, pore water pressure and inclination. This makes A.P. van den Berg one of a select group of accredited calibration laboratories in the Netherlands, alongside KEMA, Kiwa, Siemens, and the National Aerospace Laboratory, among others.

Higher reliability without product changes

The Icone cones themselves have not been changed as a result of this accreditation; they already more than met the highest quality standards for probing. However, laboratory procedures have been tightened up in order to accurately determine and further reduce measurement uncertainties. This results in even greater accuracy, reliability, and consistency of measurement data, which is also periodically checked by the RvA.

International acceptance of measurements

For our customers, the CPT companies, it is important that their measurements are accepted by clients and other involved authorities. We are now allowed to display the RvA or Ilac logo on the Icone calibration certificates. This logo is recognized internationally, so customers worldwide can take advantage of the reliability of the A.P. van den Berg calibration laboratory. In the case of doubt about a specific measurement, this lab is the “highest authority” in determining whether the cone has measured correctly.

Standard accredited calibration

As of May 1, 2020, every Icone – new or used – will be calibrated as standard under ISO 17025 accreditation and delivered with a calibration certificate bearing the RvA or Ilac logo. Class 2 calibration is performed as standard; class 1 calibration is also available on request, also under accreditation. Calibrations according to other standards or for additional measurement quantities, such as the alpha factor or temperature, remain available but fall outside the scope of the accreditation.

Validated top class from Heerenveen

Whereas until recently only Fugro had an accredited laboratory for internal use within the sounding industry, A.P. van den Berg is now making its accredited calibration available to the global market. This means that all Icone users can benefit from validated top-class calibrations, performed in accordance with ISO 22476-1 class 1 or 2 and guaranteed by ISO 17025 accreditation.
