Icone Magneto Module
The Icone Magneto Module is a plug & play extension for the digital Icone system. It detects magnetisable metal objects in the soil by measuring disturbances in the Earth’s magnetic field, including unexploded ordnance (UXO), groundanchors, piping and pile tips.
Safe and accurate underground metal detection
The Icone Magneto Module is designed for plug & play use. Once connected, it is automatically recognized by the Ifield software, enabling fast and reliable measurements without manual setup. The module performs three-axis magnetic measurements for accurate object positioning.
Applications
The Icone Magneto Module is suitable for:
- Detection of unexploded ordnance (UXO)
- Detection of sheet piles, anchors, pipelines and reinforcement
- Risk management during piling, foundation work and earthmoving
- Safety screening before and during underground operations
Gradient measurements increase sensitivity to small magnetic deviations, which is critical for detecting dangerous or unknown objects. Optional alarm thresholds provide immediate warning of strong disturbances.
Measuring principle
The Earth’s magnetic field runs from the magnetic north to the south pole. Magnetisable metal objects in the ground disturb this field, causing local deviations.
The Icone Magneto Module measures these deviations with high accuracy (0.02 µT) in three orthogonal directions. Magnetic gradients indicate the object’s distance, direction and position. An integrated inclinometer ensures accurate positioning, even at an angle.
For optimal measurement quality, non-magnetisable nitronic steel CPT rods are available. Pushing speed is adjustable between 2 and 20 cm/s, depending on soil conditions.
System integration
The Icone Magneto Module is part of the fully digital, modular Icone system. Like other Icone modules, it is automatically recognized by the Ifield software and can be combined with a standard Icone for simultaneous measurement of CPT parameters such as cone tip resistance (qc), sleeve friction (fs), pore water pressure (u2) and inclination (Ix/y).
