COSON, Continuous CPT Pusher
The COSON is A.P. van den Berg’s pushing system for continuous Cone Penetration Tests (CPTs) without interruptions. Thanks to its double-acting hydraulic system, the COSON significantly increases productivity, achieves greater CPT depths and improves the quality of data collection.
Continuous CPT’s without interruptions
The COSON penetrometerworks according to the take-over principle, whereby two hydraulic cylinders are each equipped with their own clamp. During pushing, the cylinders automatically alternate: as soon as the upper cylinder completes its downward stroke, the lower cylinder immediately takes over the movement, without any loss of speed or power. This creates a completely continuous pushing movement, without pauses or backlash. This approach delivers an average time saving of approximately 7 seconds per meter compared to systems that work with a single clamp.
Unique hydraulic clamping system
The COSON features an advanced hydraulic clamping system that operates automatically, allowing the operator to focus solely on adding and tightening the CPT rods. The two clamps of the COSON work together in a fixed cycle, resulting in the CPT rod being continuously pushed into the soil. This streamlined process prevents interruptions and makes the work considerably more efficient.
Real-time data acquisition
The COSON is compatible with the digital Icone data acquisition system of A.P. van den Berg. This system consists of Icones of 5, 10, and 15 cm², Icontrol and can be expanded with click-on modules for additional measurements such as Seismic, Vane, Conductivity, and Magneto. During the CPT’s, the data is collected and displayed real-time, contributing to a reliable and complete soil profile.
