ROSON-2D with 140 kN pushing force

The ROSON-2D is a robust and field-proven Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) system for soil investigation at sea. Engineered for maximum performance in harsh marine environments, it is deployed worldwide for geotechnical investigations in both shallow and ultra-deep waters. Powered by the rugged ROSON Double Drive system, delivering a maximum push force of 140 kN, the ROSON-2D ensures reliable, accurate measurements even at great penetration depths.

ROSON-2D: a robust and powerful CPT solution

For more than 40 years, the ROSON system has been successfully deployed for offshore geotechnical soil investigations. Building on this proven track record, A.P. van den Berg offers the ROSON-2D, a versatile and powerful Cone Penetration Testing (CPT) system suitable for water depths of up to 4,000 meters. The ROSON-2D is engineered to deliver accurate and reliable CPT measurements across a wide range of marine environments, from nearshore areas to deep-sea locations. The system can be deployed from a vessel using an A-frame, crane, or moonpool, ensuring flexibility for various offshore operations.

Double Drive system

The innovative Double Drive system forms the core of the ROSON-2D. The CPT string is securely clamped between four electrically driven wheels and pressed into the seabed in a fully controlled manner. Depending on seabed conditions and the available reaction force, CPT penetration depths of up to 50 meters can be achieved.ย With a high pushing force of up to 140 kN and a robust mechanical design, the ROSON-2D performs reliably in challenging soil conditions and demanding deep-sea applications.

Reliable data communication between ROSON and deck

Data communication between the ROSON-2D and the vessel deck is handled via a powerline connection through the umbilical, ensuring reliable, real-time data transfer.ย In nearshore and shallow-water offshore operations, the measuring cable can be routed directly from the cone to the deck. This allows direct connection to the Icontrol data acquisition unit, eliminating the need for a cable reel in the mast. This configuration simplifies operation and provides the option to extend the CPT length.

Simple operation and smart data acquisition

The ROSON-2D is designed for ease of operation. For data acquisition and processing, it utilizes the digital Icone system developed by A.P. van den Berg, ensuring accurate and efficient data handling.ย The system is fully compatible with all standard cone sizes (5 cmยฒ, 10 cmยฒ, and 15 cmยฒ) and can be expanded with a range of click-on modules, including Seismic, Vane, Conductivity, and Magneto modules, offering flexibility for a wide variety of geotechnical investigations.
