Seabed Sampler XL
The Seabed Sampler XL enables the recovery of reliable, high-quality seabed samples at water depths of up to 4,000 meters. Designed specifically for sampling soft clay layers, the system has proven effective across a wide range of seabed soil conditions. Compatible with ROSON seabed CPT systems, the Seabed Sampler XL provides an accurate and minimally disruptive sampling solution for offshore environments.
Reliable results, minimal disturbance
The Seabed Sampler XL is an advanced piston soil sampler designed to recover high-quality seabed samples at water depths of up to 4,000 meters. Developed in collaboration with the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI), the system is optimized for sampling soft clay layers, where conventional sampling techniques often result in disturbed or unreliable samples. With a recovery rate exceeding 95%, the sample structure remains virtually intact—an essential requirement for accurate geotechnical analysis.
Featuring a sample diameter of 110 mm and a maximum sampling length of up to 20 meters, the Seabed Sampler XL is ideally suited for deep-sea sampling applications where sample quality is critical.
Application and operation
The Seabed Sampler XL is fully compatible with ROSON seabed CPT systems. Prior to deployment, multiple sample tubes are pre-assembled within the ROSON unit on board the vessel.
Once on the seabed, the sampler is pushedd into the soil in a controlled manner using the ROSON system’s drive wheels. An integrated depth encoder accurately records the sampling depth, ensuring controlled, repeatable, and minimally disruptive sampling operations.
